High Point Market is the biggest week of the year for the home furnishings industry, and buyers, designers and press are looking at your people as closely as your product. If your team page has mismatched headshots, or half your reps are still using a cropped vacation photo on LinkedIn, Market week is the perfect time to fix it, because your whole team is finally in one place. Here's how to plan showroom team headshots that are easy on your staff and ready for post-Market follow-up.
Your sales team, reps and leadership are usually spread across different states. During Market, they're all in your showroom at the same time. Scheduling headshots then means one setup, one consistent look and no chasing people down for months afterward.
The best windows are first thing in the morning before the doors open, or right after the floor closes. I set up in your showroom, photograph each person in a few minutes and pack up before buyers arrive, so your floor stays open for business.
Many showrooms do both: a consistent backdrop headshot for every person, plus a few showroom portraits of designers and leadership.
Ask everyone to wear what they'd wear to meet their biggest buyer. Solid colors photograph best. Avoid busy patterns and small checks, and bring a second top or jacket if you're unsure. If your brand has a signature color, a few touches of it go a long way. Fresh grooming that morning makes a bigger difference than most people expect.
Before photography, I spent 10 years as a professionally trained hair and makeup artist, so I coach each person on posing, grooming and the small details that make a headshot look polished. Professional hair and makeup can be added for an additional fee, which is popular for designers and leadership who'll be featured in press.
Cocktail hours, designer signings, collection launches and buyer receptions are some of the best content you'll have all year. Event coverage gives you images for social media, your newsletter and next season's marketing.
High Point Market runs every April and October, and Market week schedules fill quickly. I'm based in Winston-Salem, about 20 minutes from High Point, so I can be in your showroom early and on time.
